A preview of the modernization of further airports in Greece

In one of the previous news we wrote to you about the successful partial modernization of the airport terminal in Heraklion , which was carried out in cooperation with the network of Hellenic Duty Free Shops. The implementation of this project was indicated as a model of private-public partnership. The news.gtp.gr said yesterday that similar projects are to be implemented at the next Greek airports.

The total value of projects to be implemented by Hellenic Duty Free Shops is expected to reach around € 55 million. In the first place, the modernization of the airports at Rhodes, Zakynthos and Chania should be included. As part of this amount, the second phase of works carried out at Heraklion airport will also be carried out, where the space available to passengers will be expanded. In total, 14 regional airports located in Greece will be covered by the modernization project.

Work related to the improvement of the Schengen area at the airport on the island of Rhodes should be completed by April 2019. Representatives of Hellenic Duty Free Shops assume that at the airport in Chania and Zakynthos, modernization should be completed at an earlier date. Looking through the prism of the project implemented in Heraklion, it can be assumed that the work schedule will be kept. There is a good chance that from the beginning of next season, those who use these airports will be able to enjoy the more convenient Schengen area.
