From 1 April next year, fees will increase for passenger traffic at the airport in Chania. According to the concession agreement signed between Fraport and the Greek government, its amount can be increased from the current € 13 for each cleared person up to € 18.5.
The increases in fees will be introduced for now at three of the 14 Greek airports managed by Fraport. In addition to the airport in Chania, these increases will also apply to airports in Kavala and Zakynthos. The final decision on their implementation will depend on the positive result of an external audit confirming the implementation of the next stage of modernization of these airports.
The Fraport consortium also announced that from November 2018 it will start individual talks with carriers present at the airport in Chania. The amount of fees will be determined as a result of negotiations and will certainly depend on the number of flights carried out by the airlines concerned. Despite the fact that some carriers will most likely be able to count on substantial discounts, in most cases the price of passenger services will be rather more expensive.
Well, it can not be concealed that for passengers it will be tantamount to increases in ticket prices and less availability of attractive price promotions. Unfortunately, it will also be another factor increasing the attractiveness of the airport in Heraklion , which already this year has taken away some flights previously carried out at the airport in Chania.
