The end of the school year and the end of the exam session at universities are an indisputable sign that the tourist season is beginning to prosper and is literally entering a hot period. For this reason, it is worth to take a look at the latest data and statistical summaries, which can be found on various types of information and industry portals.
This year, Greece is chosen by almost 1/3 of Polish tourists using travel agencies' offers. This result means that this country is still the number one on the organized trips market. It is worth noting, however, that unlike in previous years, Greece is more and more able to feel the breath of Turkey, ie its eternal rival, on its back. After a few years of a relatively weak economic situation, Poles are again more and more willingly choosing trips to the area of the Riviera located in the province of Antalya.
According to the data collected by travelplanet.pl , nearly 20% of tourists chose to relax this year in Turkey. This means that the country has almost tripled the number of bookings compared to last year. The attractive travel prices, which are lower compared to other countries in the Mediterranean basin, certainly helped to achieve such a good result.
It is worth noting that in the latest rankings Turkey has pushed Spain from the position of the runner up, which is enjoying less and less popularity among organized tourists. What's more, the data provided by travelplanet.pl also shows that in the popularity rankings the country was also overtaken by Bulgaria, whose golden sands attracted about 15% of Polish tourists using travel agencies' offers this year.
According to travelplanet.pl, four-star hotels enjoy the most unchanging popularity among Polish tourists, which are chosen by around half of people. This year, however, as many as 23% of travel agency clients have booked their stay in hotels of the highest standard. Compared to last year, the share of the number of people vacationing in five-star facilities is higher by over 43%. Only every fourth customer decided to go to a hotel whose standard was rated three stars.
As in previous years, the vast majority of Poles choose all inclusive trips. Such offers "everything in the price" account for 78% of all this year's reservations. About 14% of people decide to buy trips with breakfasts and dinners. Travels providing a minimum range of meals are becoming less and less popular. Stays in hotels offering only breakfast account for 5% of all reservations. Travels without food are even less popular, which this year found only 3% of all tourists willing to go.
The tendency that has been consolidated over the last years is the constantly growing share of trips offered in sales referred to as "first minute". These types of offers are becoming more and more popular among customers. We also have a similar situation this season. In the case of the largest Polish travel agencies, early sales of trips started already in the autumn of 2017 and constituted a significant part of the share in this year's travel market.
In one of the last articles on the wyborcza.biz site , it was noticed that what distinguishes this year's season from the previous ones is the return of attractive last-minute offers. This year, the hunters of cheap trips bought for the last minute can again enjoy lower prices. It is worth noting here that such promotions do not apply to all directions and offers. Countries such as Greece, Turkey or Bulgaria, which are particularly popular among tourists, are relatively well defended against reductions. The most attractive discounts can count those who are interested in the most expensive offers offered on courses considered as premium destinations.
This trend results from the growing competition on the organized trips market. Of particular importance in this aspect is the aggressive pricing policy applied by TUI Poland. In one of our previous articles, we wrote that the tour operator in recent years has significantly changed its model of functioning on the market . The release of part of the costs allowed for the creation of a very competitive offer. Such strong price pressure is caused by other travel agencies (it is worth mentioning Rainbow Tours), which additionally increase the competitiveness of trips available on the market.
The increase in the attractiveness of last minute offers was also determined by the fact that in the current season there were also cheap air carriers competing with travel agencies. They offered a large amount of cheap flights to airports located in popular tourist destinations. So if this year you decided to wait until the last minute to finalize holiday plans, it is very likely that you can find attractive offers.
