Strong start to the tourist season in Crete

The 2025 tourist season in Crete has started dynamically. According to official data, from the beginning of the year to April, more than one million arrivals have already been processed at Heraklion Airport. Compared to last year's data, this means that in 2025 the number of passengers will increase by about 150 thousand.

If the dynamics similar to last year's are maintained in the coming months, it can be expected that by the end of the tourist season, up to 9.5 million passengers eager for the Greek sun will arrive on the island.

At the same time, as noted by representatives of the hotel industry on Radio Kreta, currently about 90% of hotels have already been opened, but the current occupancy rate does not exceed 70%. The opening of all hotels is to take place by May 20, i.e. before the beginning of the so-called high season.

In terms of the origin of the tourists, the largest number of tourists have so far come from Germany, followed by France, the Netherlands and of course Poland. The number of tourists from Israel is also significant.

According to hoteliers' estimates, a smaller influx of reservations and lower hotel occupancy is expected in May. June, on the other hand, looks more stable. Forecasted demand indicates that the entire season has a chance to end at the same or even slightly higher level than last year.
