25 Sierpnia Street in Heraklion ( 25is Avgoustou ) is a very nicely situated promenade and at the same time one of the most recognizable points of this city. While walking down this beautiful street, hardly anyone wonders where it got its name from. The events of August 25, 1898 are linked to the age-old difficult relationship between Greece and Turkey. In the current tense situation between these countries, they take on even more meaning. We recall this story because yesterday was another anniversary of these events.
