An explanation of the unusual event that occurred on Wednesday at Heraklion airport was published in local media. On this day in the morning there was a collision between the plane and the car used by the airport services. According to neakriti.gr, the reason for this event was the violation of procedures by the pilot sitting at the controls of the Germanwings aircraft.
By contacting the control tower, the pilot received permission to taxi, which he began immediately after receiving the message. Earlier, however, he should contact the person supervising the personnel responsible for plate service to make sure that all vehicles and persons are at a safe distance. The pilot probably forgot about it because of the distraction, and then began the taxi procedure, which very quickly ended with the impact of the engine cover on the car parked in close proximity to the plane.
After a comprehensive check of the machine, it turned out that it did not suffer any serious damage. Only the ground handling car suffered in which the bonnet was crushed. In the meantime, the pilot was checked for alcohol in his breath. According to local services, he was completely sober. With a delay of about 3 hours, passengers could go on a scheduled flight. This incident will be further investigated by its Civil Aviation Authority.
