Elafonissi beach is not only one of the most popular beaches in the western region of the island, but also all over Crete. Every day this place is visited, if not by thousands, certainly by hundreds of tourists. In such a huge number of people, there are people who require urgent medical care practically every day. To meet this demand, the municipality of Kissamos decided that a first aid point would be launched on the Elafonissi beach.
The mayor of Kissamos, from whose initiative the project was launched, emphasized that initially the creation of a traditional doctor's office in one of the buildings located near the beach was considered. However, due to great difficulties in obtaining the necessary premises, the region's authorities decided to buy a mobile clinic. The local physicians from regional clinics located in Elos, Kefalou and Strovolos will be appointed to handle it.
This place will be open every day from 10 am to 5 pm during the summer season. The first aid will be able to count not only tourists with various types of injuries, but also people who are allergic, for example, to stings of wasps or bees. Appropriate equipment that doctors will have to allow for quick response in case of anaphylactic shock.
We are very happy about this news and we appreciate the fact that in recent years there have been many initiatives in Crete that increase the safety of those who spend their holidays on the island. It is worth mentioning that this year, in the Samaria gorge, there is also a medical point, in which the doctor is permanently on duty.
