This Sunday, the largest full moon in the year will take place throughout Greece. The event, known as Πανσέληνος 2018 (Panselinos 2018), has been for several years connected with the opening of many archaeological sites to visitors late into the night. Thanks to that, they can see well-known excavations in the light of the August full moon. So this is a really special opportunity to take advantage of if you are currently in Crete or Greece.
The celebration of the largest full moon, or Πανσέληνος 2018 (Panselinos 2018) has been organized since August 2002 by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sport. This year's event will take place on August 26, and therefore 132 archaeological sites in all of Greece will be open until midnight. In addition, as many as 95 accompanying events will be organized in these places from 24 to 27 August. There will be all kinds of music concerts, poetry readings, sky observations, theatrical performances, dance performances, etc.
In Crete, the following celebrations will take place: the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion , archaeological sites at the Apothecary , Rokka, Malia , Phaistos , Tylissos , Armeni and Etia.

The Panselinos celebrations are becoming more and more popular every year. Last year, the event attracted over 75,000 visitors. This year, Panselinos celebrated the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
