Crete among the best travel destinations in 2024

TripAdvisor is one of the largest and most famous travel websites. As every year, in January, the results of the Travelers' Choice Awards Best of the Best ranking are published, which is a kind of indicator of tourist trends for the upcoming season.

This year, the destinations chosen by travelers include 7 lists: most popular destinations, trending destinations, nature destinations, gastronomic destinations, cultural destinations, honeymoon destinations and sustainable destinations.

This year, Greece is on the lists of the best culinary and cultural destinations, as well as the best honeymoon destinations.

Crete among the best travel destinations in 2024

The most important ranking of this year's best global destinations opens with Dubai (1st), followed by Indonesian Bali (2nd), London (3rd) and Hanoi (4th), while Crete is in 9th place this year. Although the island's position in this ranking is slowly decreasing (2022-5th place; 2023-7th place), it is clear that Crete is still in the top ten best destinations in the world. This allows us to assume that there will be no shortage of tourists on the island this year.

If we narrow the ranking of the best destinations only to the European market, Crete can be found in 4th place, just behind London (1st), Rome (2nd) and Paris (3rd). Therefore, the words used by TripAdvisor to describe this island are fully justified: "Crete, the cradle of both the king of the Olympian gods and modern European civilization, is the jewel of the Mediterranean Sea." The European ranking of the best destinations also includes the Greek island of Santorini (14th) and Athens (18th).

Crete took an even higher, third place in the world ranking of culinary places. And I guess this shouldn't surprise anyone anymore. Even though Cretan food is quite simple, it is famous for its excellent quality ingredients seasoned with local herbs, which results in an extremely tasty result. Additionally, Cretan cuisine has earned a reputation for being healthy and promoting longevity. Athens was also ranked 15th in the same ranking. The same culinary ranking, but limited only to European destinations, gave Crete an even higher, second position. Athens took 8th place.

On the world's list of the best cultural destinations, only the capital of Greece, Athens, was included, which took fifth place. It is worth mentioning that Cuba took first place on this list.

An interesting fact is the ranking of the best places to spend a honeymoon. Bali took first place, and among the Greek destinations, only the island of Santorini was selected as a place perfect for honeymooners.

We are curious how the most famous beaches of Crete will rank in this year's rankings of the best beaches. However, we will have to wait for these rankings.
