The windy weather that prevailed over the south-eastern part of Crete over the weekend turned out to be quite severe for the residents of Makra Gialos . Unfortunately, the picturesque seaside promenade and the small port where fishing boats were moored were significantly damaged. The local beach has also shrunk and is now about 5 meters narrower in some places.

According to one of the boat owners, the current damage is the result of many years of neglect and work carried out without proper supervision. Subsidence of the port quay has been observed for some time. The situation worsened last summer when the harbor basin was dredged using an excavator. After the work was completed, the concrete quay subsided by approximately 15-20 cm. The weekend storm mercilessly exploited all the weaknesses of this structure and thus completed the destruction.
Local authorities were informed about the entire situation. Unfortunately, no actions were taken to secure the quay. According to local residents, the current significant damage to the waterfront is also the result of the authorities' lack of response. Well, it cannot be denied that the cost of renovating the port and the waterfront will amount to a quite specific amount, which will be borne by all residents of the not very numerous community of Makry Gialos through the municipal budget.

Faktycznie się nie spieszyli z naprawami. W tym roku po środku tej kostkowej promenady byla już dziura ogrodzona taśmami. Teraz rejon ogrodzenia nimi powiekszyli. Jeszcze jeden sezon i parking zacznie sie zmniejszać

Sadi Darek no niestety jeszcze trochę zimy zostało. Kapryśna pogoda raczej nie naprawi szkód, które są już w tej chwili. Tak jak piszesz - aby do lata chociaż parking pozostał bez uszczerbku na wielkości ;)
