Hot July in Crete

Those who spent their holidays on the island at that time know well that July was very hot in Crete. The heatwave, which appeared around July 10, lasted continuously for over 2 weeks. It is already known that in Crete it was the warmest July since 2010, and the average maximum temperature of July 2023 was 2.8 degrees higher than the average value for the last decade.

The records of 53 weather stations of the National Observatory in Athens show that the past month was characterized by very high temperatures for the season in all regions of Greece. The maximum temperature values for most days of the month oscillated above the average for the last decade.

In the case of Crete, it was as follows: in Chania, on 25 out of 31 days in July, the temperature was above the average for the last decade. In Rethymno, there were 29 days with above-average temperatures. In the case of Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos, it was 26 and 28 out of 31 days of the month, respectively.

Czyli zamiast słynnych kreteńskich 29/22 - ok. 32/25

Jak ktoś (a takich mało, i wiem, że ja koneser, ale 99% ludzi nigdy aż tak nie wnika w szczegóły) się interesował tabelkami i statystykami, to zawsze ciekawostką było to że w prawie całej Grecji jest 30-34 latem w dzień, a średnia dla północnej Krety w dzień to 29. Troche podobnie we Włoszech - prawie wszędzie co najmniej 30, a w Palermo 29.
