Until recently, the sea turtle Haris was a regular visitor to the Venetian port of Chania. For several years, from May to October, he regularly kept company with local fishermen, with whom he was so friendly that he ate calamari and fish that they served him. Every morning Haris came to "feed", and many tourists and random passers-by must have seen this moment. The turtle also accompanied the fishermen when they went to sea. He liked to follow their ships, and they had saved him many times from getting tangled in the ropes.
Unfortunately, Haris will not come to the port again. He was seen here back in May but then stopped appearing. A few days ago he was found dead and local fishermen recognized him by the characteristic marks on the shell. The turtle probably died from the impact of the screw. Fishermen say they have lost a longtime friend.
Supposedly, another, smaller turtle was observed in the Venetian harbour. However, for now, he keeps his distance from people.
In the video below, you can see Haris coming to the boats for food.
