Although the fire risk in Crete has been gradually decreasing in recent days, today there were several more serious incidents related to starting a fire. Fortunately, these fires were still quite limited and, most importantly, they were completely controlled by the fire brigade.
The most serious incident occurred in the town of Krousonas in the municipality of Malevizi, near Heraklion. About 17 hectares of grassland burned down here. A total of over 50 firefighters fought the fire, and over a dozen vehicles arrived at the scene. A fire helicopter was also used to drop water from the air. You can see the raging element in the video above. This short clip clearly shows that the work of firefighters was greatly hindered by the gusty wind.
Another local fire occurred in the Spina Gorge in the Kantano area. Five fire engines were sent to the scene. The raging fire caused damage to the power traction, which in turn caused power outages to some of the houses located in this area of the island. Eventually, with the help of local residents, the fire was brought under control before it spread to a larger area.
A small fire also occurred in the Heraklion airport area. The fire was started in an area opposite the arrivals area. Also here, thanks to the efficient action of the services, the fire was brought under control very quickly.
Also yesterday in the early afternoon, the fire appeared near the village of Sellia on Plakias. The fire was put out in time, although the merit of the local residents was considerable. Even before the arrival of the fire brigade, they took the first steps to prevent the fire from spreading over a larger area. This was very important because strong gusts of wind can instantly increase firepower, and then it can become very difficult to control it.
Finally, we want to emphasize that these events were local in nature. What is worth emphasizing, however, is the determined attitude and quick action of the villagers in extinguishing every source of fire with joint forces. This vigilance and quick response is now essential as the vegetation is very dry after prolonged heat. Nobody wants a worst-case scenario either.
For tomorrow, the prefectures of Chania and Rethymno are forecast to have a medium fire risk (level 2) and high risk (level 3) in the prefectures of Heraklion and Lassithi.

Ten niższy poziom zagrożenia chyba rozwagę i czujność ludziom odbiera

Czasami ludzie tracą czyujność ale nie wszyscy. Dzisiaj przeglądałem prognozy dla Krety i pod względem temperatur wyglądało to dobrze na najbliższy tydzień. Oby tak już zostało. Bo do moich wakacji zostało kilka dni.

Edyta Zawiert Są i tacy którzy świadomie potrafią podłożyć ogień. Ale mobilizacja ludzi i służb jest jednak ogromna.
