On the occasion of the European Music Day 2023, the Department of Culture of the Rethymno City Hall invites everyone to open-air events organized in the streets of the city. The series of events will start tomorrow, Wednesday, June 21 and will last three days. Admission to all events is free. You can find the program below.
Wednesday, June 21, 7 p.m. 19.30 – Unknown Soldier Square (Πλατεία Αγνώστου Στρατιώτη)
Presentation of European folk dances. Dances from Italy, Germany, Russia, Greece, Holland, France, England and Spain will be presented.
Wednesday, June 21, 7 p.m. 20.30 – Loggia (Λότζια)
Concert of the University Choir of Rethymno Schools.
Thursday, June 22, at 20.45 – Metropolitan Square (Πλατεία Μητρόπολης)
Concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the City of Rethymno, which will play well-known pieces. This concert is also to be a tribute to the outstanding composer Yiannis Markopoulos, who passed away several days ago.
Thursday, June 22, at 22.00 – Heroes' Square of the University of Technology (Πλατεία Ηρώων Πολυτεχνείου (Νομαρχία))
The city choir of Rethymno will present a musical program on "Greek songs that have traveled the world - foreign songs that have traveled to Greece".
Friday, June 23, at 21.30 – Erofili Theater in the Fortezza (Θέατρο Ερωφίλη)
A concert in tribute to Mikis Theodorakis, one of the most important Greek composers, who gained the greatest fame by composing the music for the film Zorba the Greek. Among others, students and teachers of the Brass Ensemble, Choir Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble will play.
