In the old days, city fountains were created in response to the problem of providing cities with drinking water. The Rimondi Fountain in Rethymno is the only fountain from the Venetian era that has survived in this city to our times. Back then, it was an important part of the city's fresh water supply system. Today, on the hot days of the Cretan summer, many tourists look for refreshment here, because water is still flowing from the lion's mouth.
