The tradition of the Cretan summer was various kinds of festivals organized all over the island. It is not only about the film ones, but most of all about culinary events. Basically any reason was good for organizing a meeting with good food, dancing and live music. Our regular readers will surely remember our news announcing the bananas, onions, oranges, sfakian pie, graviery, cod, sardines and cheese festivals. Unfortunately, none of them will happen this season. The current ban on the organization of such events has just been extended until the end of August, as announced by Deputy Minister of Development Nikos Papathanasis.
As you can guess, this is one of the limitations associated with the ongoing epidemic. Originally, the decision to suspend the organization of these events was valid until August 15, so everyone hoped that at least some of these meetings would be held, especially those related to the celebration of the Feast of the Holy Mother of God. However, authorities fear congestion, which is conducive to the spread of the virus. Therefore, it was decided to extend this ban until the end of next month.
