September is another month after August, when a smaller number of visitors were recorded in the Samaria ravine. In this month, the drop in the number of guests reached almost 8.5% compared to the same period last year. The weaker statistics of the number of visitors during this year's September are the result of the recent capricious weather. In particular, this applies to a few rainy days at a time when entering the ravine area was not possible.
In more detailed terms, the statistics for September are as follows: the total number of people using the entrance from the side of the Omalos plateau amounted to 23315 people, while from Rouia's agony 2243 people. The total number of visitors to the Samaria Gorge was 25,558 people and was smaller than 2,311 people compared to September 2017.
After the impressive start of the season, when in May the number of visitors increased by nearly 44%, the results of tourist traffic recorded in this place are getting weaker. It seems, however, that there is still a good chance that the total number of tickets sold will exceed last year's value of 149 thousand. Everything will depend, of course, on the weather that will dominate in October. The accessibility of the trail through the gorge is usually maintained until mid-this month. In recent years, it often happened that after the decision of the Forest District Directorate of Chania, the season was extended even to the end of October.
However, it is worth waiting for the exact data until the publication of a detailed summary of the season, which is traditionally made available at the beginning of December.
