Krios beach is located about 9 km west of Paleochora and it is also the last beach on this section of the southern coast, accessible by road. For Crius, the asphalt road leaves the coast line and goes deep into the island, turning into a gutter.
To get to this beach, follow the road to the west of Paleochora. Then, going further along the village of Gialos and Agia Kiriaki, we pass dozens of foil tunnels in which tomatoes grow among others. This is not a special view. We will not pretend that this part of the road belongs to the picturesque, because it is not. Fortunately, the foils end around the half-length of the beach in Krios. In the final episode, you can not see them at all.
The car can be parked on a large gravel parking lot located directly on the beach. In the neighborhood there is also a small, simple beach tavern that offers products typical of such places.
If you are looking for a slightly less crowded place, you should be satisfied by choosing this beach. At Krios Beach you will not find too many tourists vacationing. The reason for this is, however, simple and probably due to the fact that it is a stony-pebble beach. Its commercial success is lacking in sand, which is so adored by tourists from northern Europe. No wonder that Greek tourists or locals are most often found here, where pebbles do not interfere with good rest.
The eastern part of Krios beach
The beach itself is about one kilometer long and is divided into three more bays. The largest eastern part is also the most rocky, windy and least friendly to swimmers. For this reason, there is no tourist infrastructure in this part.
At the central part of the Krios beach there is the above-mentioned car park and tavern. If you would like to stay here longer, you can rent an umbrella and deckchairs in this part.
The last western part of Krios is hidden behind a large rock, which makes this stretch of the beach the most isolated and intimate. Sun loungers are also offered here, but you can also hide in the shade of the rocks from the sun. It is worth remembering only that this bay, due to its isolated location, was also liked by naturalists.
Krios beach is basically accessible only for motorized tourists. You can get a KTEL bus from Paleochora only to Kountouras, which is still a long way from Crios.
The rock with the designation of the E4 route
There is also an international E4 route at Krios, so you can also take a look at it from Paleochora via Kedrodasos and Elafonissi. Following the trail further west, after about 20-30 minutes you will reach the picturesque place called Krios Lake. There was once an ancient city Vienna. You can find here the remains of ancient marble columns, tombs and clay vessels lying at the shoreline.
At Krios you will not find too many accommodation options, the nearest place where you can rent a room is located in the area of the foil basin, in Gialos. For campers or camping enthusiasts, Krios can be one of the stops on the go.
