In recent days, very high temperatures have been recorded in many regions of Crete and Greece. The breeze of summer was felt in Heraklion where over 28'C was recorded. The mercury column also reached a similar level near Chania. However, it is worth bearing in mind that such high temperatures are recorded only during the day in the lower parts of the island. Anyway, thanks to the data collected by the meteo.gr portal, it is clearly visible that now, even in the midday hours, the air temperature may fluctuate rapidly.
An excellent example of such strong temperature fluctuations are the readings recorded at the weather station in Kampos Keramia, located about 10 kilometers south of Chania. On Saturday morning, the apparatus indicated that the air temperature there is only around 13'C. After just over an hour, the sensor readings recorded an increase in temperature to around 28'C. A detailed temperature chart prepared by the meteo.gr portal can be found in the graphic below.

In the following hours the readings changed very rapidly again. In just a dozen or so years, the temperature increased or decreased by 8-10'C. The phenomenon of such sudden changes in temperature is explained by meteorologists by changing winds, which, depending on the direction, brought hot air masses from the southern part of Crete or definitely cooler ones from the north.
Strong temperature changes were also observed in other meteorological stations in Crete, but in these places the drops and increases were not so sharp. Meteorologists emphasize that in order to fully understand such phenomena it would be necessary to significantly densify the network of meteorological stations.
