Archelon is an organization that is thriving to protect Caretta Caretta turtles. We recently informed you about the nest discovery campaign that was carried out in the area of the north coast of Crete. Similar activities will also be undertaken this weekend. On Saturday, more nests will be discovered at Geraniotis Beach in Platanias. On Sunday, while watching tiny turtles will be possible on the beach in Maleme near the beach bar Menta.
Care for turtle nests is not the only action taken by volunteers cooperating with Archelon. This organization also focuses on the protection and care of adult Caretta Caretta turtles. A good example here is the story of a turtle, which was found in a very poor condition on one of the Greek beaches. The animal, which was affectionately named with the Greek name Χρυσανθη (Chrysanthemum), thanks to the efforts of volunteers and the help of KTEL, went to the Archelon rescue center. Here, the weakened animal received professional help, which figuratively put him on his feet.
Today, Χρυσανθη, measuring about 70 cm in length and weighing about 54 kg, is a completely healthy individual. This Sunday, September 15, a little over a year after she was found by volunteers, she will be able to enjoy her freedom again. Archelon invites everyone to see how at 11 am on the beach of Missiria Rethymno near the campsite, Elizabeth Χρυσανθη is returned to nature.
