Recently, we wrote on our website about the fact that employees of the Greek Treasury have recently conducted increased inspections of various types of commercial and service outlets. During these activities, a number of irregularities were revealed, including those related to the non-issue of receipts. This is also the problem of the information campaign undertaken by the Greek Office for Public Finance (AADE). Under the slogan #Apodixi_Please (literally: receipt please) a campaign will be conducted, one of the goals of which is to reduce the scale of tax fraud.
This action is also intended to remind you of a number of rights that consumers have. It is worth mentioning that, according to Greek law, all hotels, restaurants, bars, cafes, car rentals and other suppliers of goods and services are required to accept payments by debit and credit cards. For now, taxi drivers and kiosk operators are excluded from this obligation.
The Office also reminds that apart from exceptions such as hotels, doctor's offices, clinics or law firms, most entities offering various types of services or dealing with trade are required to have cash registers. Before paying the invoice, every consumer has the right to ask for a receipt. On the graphic below prepared by AADE you can see what the correct and incorrect receipt looks like.
The printout from the cash register must contain, among others, such information as: the name of the invoice issuer, the address, as well as his 9-digit identification number ΑΦΜ (VAT). The Office reminds that any consumer who does not receive a valid fiscal receipt in accordance with the above guidelines has the right not to pay for the goods and services purchased.
AADE also urges you to make payments using payment cards. According to the office, this allows easier control of business entities, increases their transparency and reduces the risk of operating within the shadow economy. To join this campaign while in Greece, just ask for a receipt before paying by saying the slogan of this information campaign: " Apódixi please "!
