According to information provided by the Greek Central Archaeological Council in 2020, further changes will be introduced in the price of museum tickets and excavations. At one of the last meetings of this council, these changes were unanimously voted down, and thus the project gained a green light. Unfortunately, in most cases, these changes will be tantamount to price increases for tourists.
One of the major changes is the abandonment of the cheapest tickets, which at the moment were valued at 1 and 2 € . From 2020, the basic fees for entering museum facilities and excavation areas will amount to 2 or 3 €, respectively. Unfortunately, this means an automatic increase for those places where currently the cost of admission tickets is priced at the lowest amount of 1 or 2 €. In total, these changes will affect around 24 places throughout Greece.
Additionally, on the basis of statistics, the status of objects and revenues from ticket sales, other places were selected, where the price of tickets will also change. In the case of three facilities after 2020, the entry cost will be lower than at present. Unfortunately, none of these places are on Crete. The ticket price reduction will apply to places such as the Archaeological Museum on the island of Rhodes (reduction of a normal ticket from 8 to 6 €), Museum of Ancient Messina (reduction of a normal ticket from 12 to 10 €), Byzantine Museum in Didymoteicho (reduction of the normal ticket price from 4 for 3 €).
Unfortunately, there will also be hikes. One of the places where fees will be higher is the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion. From 2020, the ticket prices will be 12 € for normal tickets and 6 € for discounted tickets, respectively. Currently, these prices are 10 and 5 € respectively.

It is also worth noting that increases will not miss other places that are also located in Crete. In the case of several facilities, admission fees will be increased twice . From the current € 2 the cost of a normal ticket will be increased to € 4 for places like: Forteca Koules, Archaeological Museum in Rethymno, archaeological excavations in the Apothecary, Archeological Museum in Kissamos.

It is worth mentioning here that at present only price increases of single admission tickets have been confirmed. In the information provided to the media, the Central Archaeological Council did not mention anything about the 24-hour combined tickets allowing to visit several places. If the prices of these tickets are maintained at the current level, it can certainly be expected that their attractiveness for tourists will definitely increase.
