Recently, we've uploaded Nikos Sarantos' movie on our site, in which he showed the beauty of the snowy mountains of Crete. On the way back from these locations, he came across a lonely runner crossing the road towards Psilotiris. There would be nothing extraordinary about it, if it were not for the fact that this man was running in the snow without using shoes. This is what attracted the attention of Nikos Sarantos, who decided to immortalize this with the eye of his camera.
It turned out that this unusual person is Idomeneas Avramakis, a proponent of the Crete Region, whose passion is running barefooted by many people as the most natural and healthiest form of movement. Probably some of you wonder what just touched this type of running.
The whole story begins more than 12 years ago when Idomeneas underwent complicated lymph node operations. After the surgery, he fell into a coma lasting over 3 weeks. And although the doctors did not give him too much chance for recovery, Idomeneas again literally stood on his own feet and what he himself was born again. It was then that the thought appeared in him to start his running adventure. Three years later, he went a step further by rejecting shoes.
In the following years, he competed in mass runs, always standing on the barefoot starting line. He quickly became a very recognizable figure in Greek marathons. However, if you think that this is all that could have occurred to him, you are wrong. A few years later he came up with another very unexpected idea. And why not overcome the distance of the classic marathon barefoot in addition to the dress stylized for spartan armor? It was in this outfit in 2017 that he appeared on the Panjin Red Beach marathon starting line, becoming a real sensation of the local run. It attracted attention not only of the local media, but also other runners who were extremely eager to stop taking a picture with him.
At that time, he was also spotted by Eliana Abravanel, who decided to make a documentary about "mature" Greek runners. It was obvious to Eliana that one of the characters portrayed in this movie must be Idomeneas Avramakis. The "Finish Line" document, the trailer of which you can see above, has won many awards and distinctions at various festivals and shows.
